The Blaine Gabbert era in Arizona didn’t last too long.
Fresh off yet another embarrassing performance from the former Jacksonville Jaguars first-round bust, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians just announced that Gabbert has been benched in favor of veteran backup Drew Stanton.
BA: Drew Stanton will start at QB

This comes mere days after reports broke that the Cardinals were looking into signing Gabbert to a contract extension. It also comes after he completed just 16-of-41 passes with an interception in a loss to the Redskins on Sunday.
In five starts this season, Gabbert is completing less than 56 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and six interceptions. By virtue of this week’s loss, the Cardinals are now 6-8 and completely out of the NFC Playoff race.
Unfortunately for Arians and Co., they just don’t have a young quarterback on the roster to give the rock to. Once Carson Palmer went down with a season-ending injury, the options were limited to Gabbert and Stanton.
We’re pretty darn sure at this point that Arizona will look to add a franchise quarterback either in free agency or through the 2018 NFL Draft. For now, the team will conclude a lost season with Stanton under center.
Arizona will host the last-place New York Giants this upcoming weekend in a game that promises to be among the best on the Week 16 slate. Yes, we have jokes.
