LiAngelo Ball and two UCLA teammates are in being held in China for allegedly stealing sunglasses, and the latest report isn’t helping matters.
According to TMZ Sports, school sources said “there is no question” Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill stole from the Louis Vuitton store located near the team hotel.
News of the arrest broke earlier this week, and a subsequent report revealed the trio could be facing 3-10 years in jail. The primary reason for hope would be that the United States, the university and lawyers could negotiate on behalf of the players.
TMZ reported that Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba Group, is also working to aid the release.
“UCLA and Ma are pulling out all the political stops to resolve this,” TMZ reported.
The regular-season opener between UCLA and Georgia Tech is sponsored by Alibaba. Also, both teams visited the company headquarters before the arrests occurred.
While the timeline for a legal conclusion is unknown, the three players will remain at the hotel until a decision is made.
