Calvin Johnson has made it clear that he’s not going to return to the NFL after retiring in 2016, but that’s not stopping teams from being interested in his services. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, two teams have made inquiries into what it might take to trade for the rights of the future Hall of Famer.
“Figuring they had nothing to lose, the Lions told teams to reach out to Johnson to gauge his interest, but so far it has been noncommittal at best, diminishing any hope for a deal, sources said.”
Johnson recently hinted that he retired in part because the Lions weren’t a winning organization (more on that here).
He’s also vocally attacked the Lions organization for some of the stuff that’s gone down since his retirement.
That said, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers that teams are trying to lure Johnson out of retirement, either. It’s not surprising. After all, this is a guy who has hauled in 731 passes for 11,619 yard and 83 touchdowns during his career.
