Report: Multiple teams interested in Colts’ Frank Gore

Frank Gore

As Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore plays out the twilight of his career, there’s a possibility he could be doing so with a contending team.

On the eve of the NFL trade deadline, Stephen Holder Gregg Doyel of the Indy Star are reporting that at least two teams are interested in trading for the future Hall of Fame running back.

“At least two teams have discussed the possibility of dealing for Gore, according to a league source, though a deal is far from a sure thing,” the two reported.

The report went on to indicate that Gore, 34, would be receptive to the idea of being dealt to a contender. And with youngster Marlon Mack breathing down on him in Indianapolis, maybe this makes the most sense.

It also comes on the heels of rumors suggesting Indianapolis might be willing to move both T.Y. Hilton and Vontae Davis. First-year general manager Chris Ballard does not have a prior relationship to any of the players mentioned here. That makes it easier to move a veteran.

Ballard is also looking to build this team under his philosophy after taking over for the disgraced Ryan Grigson this past winter.

As it relates to Gore, he still has a little something left in the tank. Here’s a guy that has put up 1,000-plus total yards in each of the past 11 seasons. He’s on pace to cross that plateau once again in 2017.

Teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers could conceivably come calling.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, so something would have to be worked out quickly.
