Reggie Bush still wants to play in the NFL

Reggie Bush, Shea McClellin

Reggie Bush is now well over a decade removed from starring for USC. Last season saw him make infamous history in recording negative-three yards as a member of the Buffalo Bills. He’s 32 years old and has not attempted a run in the NFL since Christmas Eve of 2016.

Despite this, Bush is still making it known that he wants to return to the NFL this season.

“I still want to play, but if it doesn’t happen this year, then I’m going to retire,” Bush told ESPN. “I’m not going to miss a whole year and then try to come back for another season at 33 years old, it doesn’t make sense.”

Does this mean that if Bush doesn’t play this year he’ll ultimately give it up? We’re not trying to sound callous, but here’s a running back that has not gained even 300 yards in a season since 2013. We were waiting for then Bills head coach Rex Ryan to unleash him like a “Ferrari” last season. Obviously, that never came to fruition.

Though, this does fall in line with what Bush said during the latter stages of free agency in the spring. Is he’s committed to playing, maybe some team will look to give the former Heisman winner a chance. But for now, it seems to be nothing more than a pipe dream on Bush’s part.
