In more breaking NFL trade news, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday. Ajayi joins a roster of running backs that includes LeGarrette Blount and Wendell Smallwood.
For those wondering what Ajayi’s role will be, the Eagles have set the record straight. Vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said that Blount will remain the starter, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
At least, this is the story for now.
Blount has tallied 467 rushing yards and two touchdowns as the starter so far. He is currently rushing at a healthy pace of 4.7 yards per carry. But Blount is nowhere near on course for the league-high 18 rushing scores he accomplished with the New England Patriots last season.
Ajayi arrives to the Eagles after putting up a terrible 23-yard performance in his final game with the Dolphins. The 24-year-old running back has yet to score this year, as well.
It will be interesting to see how the Eagles plan to utilize Ajayi, who has been performing nowhere near to the level he was last season. Fantasy football owners are surely concerned as well as to how the Eagles will sort out their backfield.
