Jay Cutler’s not-so-shocking admission about Fox Sports broadcasting job

Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler speaks to reporters ahead of NFL preseason Week 2

Instead of seeing Jay Cutler in a Fox Sports broadcasting booth this fall, he will be under center as the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback.

Perhaps this is a good thing for Cutler, who admitted he never practiced for his broadcasting job.

“I mean, I’d be lying if I said I did,” Cutler said, per Peter King of Sports Illustrated.”

While this admittance by Cutler is kind of comical, it is not in the least bit surprising. In classic Cutler style, it appears he was planning on just winging it at Fox Sports. Perhaps that is why Fox hired him. It sure would have been interesting listening to what Cutler came up with when commentating on the games each week.

That career has been put on the shelf, at least for now.

The Dolphins lured Cutler back onto the field where he has looked quite comfortable working with his old Chicago Bears coordinator, Adam Gase. During his preseason appearances under center with the Dolphins, Cutler achieved a 111.9 quarterback rating, without an interception in sight.

It should be worth following Cutler’s progress in Miami once the regular season gets underway. Becoming a Dolphins starting quarterback is also something Cutler never prepared for, and it’s going to be fascinating to see where this ride ends.
