The Miami Heat released Chris Bosh on Tuesday after the center battled blood clotting issues in his leg for well over a year. While this is certainly not a pleasant circumstance for Bosh, who has been pleading his case to play, there is a silver lining.
Pat Riley announced that no other player will ever wear Bosh’s No. 1 jersey again. The team will retire it at some point in the future.

Bosh, at the age of 33, missed all of last year due to this medical condition and has only played a total of 97 games the past three seasons. Over the course of his career, Bosh has been one of the best centers in the game averaging 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists and one block per game. He also won two championships as a member of the Heat.
The Heat are saving $25 million by releasing Bosh.
No doubt Bosh will continue to make his way back onto the court as an NBA player. However, given his health issues it seems highly unlikely he ever will.
