The Detroit Lions used to feature banners that hung in Ford Field and highlighted playoff appearances. Quite honestly, those banners were nothing but embarrassing, but thankfully for the Lions and their fans they’re finally gone.

As the franchise prepares to play in a refurbished Ford Field, the decision was made to jettison those banners while keeping their division championship banners.

Whatever you think about children receiving participation trophies, there’s no doubt Detroit’s playoff appearance banners were similar objects. Of course, the big difference here is that we’re talking about a professional football team, not a group of kiddos.
Hopefully for the sake of their fans, the Lions can start earning some real banners to add to their sparse collection.
