This puts the Browns’ running back situation in essentially the same place it was last season. Crowell as the primary back with Duke Johnson on third downs. Last season, it was perhaps the only part of their offense that functioned well. The Browns finished 13th in offensive rushing efficiency, per Football Outsiders.
Crowell rushed for 952 yards, averaging 4.8 per carry. Bringing him back was likely one of few major priorities for the Browns in free agency, so it should come as welcome news to fans that he’ll be back in Cleveland next season.
