Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup quarterback Mike Glennon will reportedly sign with the Chicago Bears when free agency opens on Thursday. The deal is said to be worth $15 million annually.
That’s a whole heck of a lot of cash to throw in the direction of a quarterback that has tossed a total of 11 passes over the past two seasons.
It also sets a completely different market for quarterbacks as the 2017 offseason gets going. What does this mean for Kirk Cousins on a potential long-term deal? Will Jay Cutler be valued at $15-plus million annually now that Glennon is earning that much?
So many questions.
In an odd turn that pretty much magnifies just how weird the quarterback situation is around the NFL, Green Bay Packers Pro Bowler Aaron Rodgers has pointed to Glennon’s likely new deal to suggest he wants to talk about his contract with the team.
No, really.
Aaron Rodgers on if Mike Glennon possibly getting $15M/year in free agency should lead to talks about his own contract: "I think it has to."

Does this somehow mean that Glennon is on the verge of setting the market for some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL today? Talk about backwards.
As it relates to Rodgers, he’s currently playing under a five-year, $110 million deal he signed with Green Bay back in 2013. Set to make just north of $22 million in 2017, it stands to reason Rodgers would want to see a larger financial commitment from the Packers. After all, that salary places him outside of the top-five quarterbacks in the NFL.
It just remains to be seen whether Green Bay will actually look to rework Rodgers’ contract based on the premise that a lesser quarterback took advantage of an absurd market.
Rodgers, 33, is coming off an MVP-caliber 2016 season that saw him put up 4,428 yards while leading the NFL with 40 passing touchdowns. A raise could surely be in the works here.
