John York shoots down ‘completely’ false rumor 49ers will demote Jed York

Jed York

There have been reports than San Francisco 49ers co-chairs Denise and John York would remove their son, Jed York, from his CEO position, which gives him ownership powers of the franchise.

But according to John, those reports have no validity to them. Cam Inman of  Bay Area News Group quoted the senior York, who left no doubt that the reports (more on them here) were not accurate.

The 2016 season has not been a good one for Jed.

The 49ers are 1-13, having dropped 13 straight after a Week 1 victory. San Francisco’s home games feature empty seats throughout Levi’s Stadium. When the stadium has been full, it’s usually been occupied by large portions of opposing team’s fans. In 2016, this was most notable in games against the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.

For the second year in a row, 49ers’ fans have purchased banners to be flown above the stadium during the team’s home games. Those have taken not so subtle shots at York and the team’s general manager, Trent Baalke.

The younger York has also been on the receiving end of apparent social media jabs from his cousin, Lisa DeBartolo, daughter of former team owner Eddie DeBartolo.

Certainly, parents being unwilling to fire their son is understandable. But the fact remains that in 2014, Jed York essentially fired Harbaugh after an 8-8 season. In nearly two full years since then, San Francisco is 6-24.

So, it’s fair to say that if John’s words are true, a good portion of Niner Nation will be disappointed.
