Report: Mike McCoy’s job on the line the next two weeks

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy has been on the proverbial hot seat for the past year-plus, and the franchise may finally be fed up enough to potentially do something about it.

“According to sources informed of the situation, McCoy now faces a critical two-game stretch, one that could decide his future,” writes Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. “San Diego travels to Oakland to play the Raiders on Sunday, then hosts the Broncos on Thursday. If it goes poorly, hard decisions could be made quickly.”

That McCoy’s job is on the line shouldn’t shock anyone. In fact, Rapoport notes some within the organization were surprised McCoy was not dumped after the team’s agonizing loss to the New Orleans Saints last weekend.

The Chargers are currently 1-3 on the season on the heels of a wasted 2015 campaign in which they went 4-12. On top of the bad record, the team has been abhorrent in late-game situations (more on that here).

In particular, it’s been frustrating for this scribe to watch Philip Rivers’ golden years go down the toilet.

Given the two-game stretch that could determine McCoy’s status going forward, Chargers fans should be excited for a change that has been desperately needed for a couple years.

The Raiders and Broncos — on paper — should wipe the floor with the Chargers.

Hopefully, if this occurs, San Diego will finally get up the nerve to fire McCoy, who is one of the worst head coaches in recent NFL memory.
