Report: 49ers, Colin Kaepernick working on restructured contract

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers are on the verge of finalizing a restructure of his current contract that would remove some of the injury guarantees, according to NFL Newtork’s Ian Rapoport.

This could be the first step to getting Kaepernick back out there on the field. His contract is currently structured as a prove-it type deal from here until the end of it outside of the injury guarantees. Since he was injured to start the season, it ensures the organization won’t be handcuffed again like it was this spring.

On top of that, Rapoport reports about Kaepernick being able to void the deal after this season.

If Kaepernick is able to void this deal after this year, it would allow another team to sign him and try and give him a shot. This would allow the polarizing star the ability to move on from the 49ers if things don’t work out and move to a team that actually wants to use him.

The question is which team it could be.
