Dolphins’ Dallas Thomas rips ‘overrated’ social media

Miami Dolphins offensive guard Dallas Thomas struggled to keep defenders in front of him during the first preseason game, which caused many on social media to offer strong opinions on his worth.

He didn’t take it well.

Speaking to reporters Sunday morning, Thomas ripped into social media users.

“It’s pointless,” Thomas said, via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “Social media gives people, what’s a good way to say it, it gives them balls. It gives them balls that they wouldn’t say it to your face.”

Interestingly, and kind of hard to truly buy, is the fact that Thomas says he “outgrew” social media and doesn’t use it any more. “Social media is overrated,” he said.

Obviously he saw plenty of the stuff directed his way — either by way of family and friends or because he was on one of his social media accounts.

But to his point, social media does give people “balls” to say things they’d never say in person. It’s for this reason that professional athletes with thin skin should avoid social media at all costs. The folks out there are savages, spewing vitriol in copious amounts on a regular basis.

Hopefully Thomas will take his own advice and stay away, at least until he can play better and not get his quarterback annihilated.
