Report: Tyler Eifert needs ankle surgery, will be out three months

Tyler Eifert

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert will reportedly go under the knife for a “minimal procedure” on the ankle he injured at the end of January, Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

“…the ankle has not responded as quickly as all of the parties would have liked and The Enquirer has learned from multiple league sources that the 25-year-old tight end will undergo what was deemed a ‘minimal procedure’ on that ankle soon. A three month recovery is anticipated.”

A three-month recovery pegs Eifert’s return around the end of August, which is about a month into Cincinnati’s training camp.

Eifert led all tight ends last year with 13 touchdown receptions. He also caught 52 passes for 615 yards in what was a breakout campaign for him.

Being that he isn’t a fresh-faced rookie, this shouldn’t have much of an impact on his ability to perform at a high level in 2016. That said, between Andy Dalton returning from his thumb injury and Eifert missing a significant amount of time, chemistry could be an issue early on.
