New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman recently underwent foot surgery, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, and is on track for a return to action by the time training camp rolls around.
Edelman missed seven games last year with a foot injury and had a screw inserted into his foot last November. So, this isn’t a new issue we’re talking about.
When healthy, Edelman has developed into a favorite weapon of Tom Brady’s in New England’s offense. The past three seasons he’s averaged over 6.5 receptions per game and has seen his yardage per game increase in each of them. He has caught 17 touchdowns during this stretch and can be counted on to be a productive punt returner in a pinch.
With Tom Brady’s four-game suspension recently being upheld by the court (it’s not over yet), there is a chance Edelman will have to make his return without the quarterback who has turned him into a star.
And while he’s on track for training camp, Edelman’s foot is something to keep an eye on this season, for all you fantasy football fans. Being that this is an issue that stems from troubles he had last year, it has the potential to be a nagging problem the rest of his career.
