Dallas Cowboys select Ezekiel Elliott No. 4 overall

The Dallas Cowboys have broken theĀ mold to take Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Coupled with Joey Bosa to the San Diego Chargers, this is the second consecutive Ohio State player selected.

While Elliott is obviously immensely talented, the selection of a running back this early breaks from the norm. The last time running back went this early was in 2012, when the Cleveland Browns selected Alabama running back Trent Richardson with the third pick.

Elliott put up monster stats with the Buckeyes, rushing for more than 1,800 yards in each of the last two seasons.Ā He also ran for 18 touchdowns in 2014 and a whopping 23 in 2015.

The selection of Elliott will give the Cowboys a new version of the 1990’s triplets, with Tony Romo playing the role of Troy Aikman at quarterback, Dez Bryant occupying Michael Irvin’s job at receiver, and Elliott taking the spot of running back Emmitt Smith.
