The one-year experiment of Andre Johnson in Indianapolis appears to be over. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Colts have released the veteran wide receiver, a move that will save the team $5 million in cap space.

Johnson, 37, had a disastrous one season in Indianapolis after spending the first 12 years in the NFL with the rival Houston Texans. He recorded just 41 receptions for 503 yards and four touchdowns.

This move will definitely lead to questions regarding Johnson’s future. He fell off the final season in Houston, recording less than 1,000 yards and just three touchdowns in 2014. That came on the heels of Johnson tallying 1,200-plus yards in five of his previous six seasons.

Ranked in the top 10 in the history of the league in both receptions (1,054) and receiving yards (14,100), Johnson is a lock for Canton. It will be interesting to see if he attempts to continue what has been a stellar career.
