According to a report by Will Brinson of CBS Sports, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) confirmed on Saturday that Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is a “listed suspect” in the ongoing investigation of the Jan. 30 alleged domestic abuse incident involving Colleen Crowley.
This is the full statement released by the DPD.
“On February 5, 2016, Dallas Police Department began investigating a complaint of a domestic violence assault that occurred in Dallas on January 30, 2016, which Jonathan Manziel was the listed suspect.
Up to this point in the investigation, detectives have continued communicating with the complainant, interviewed witnesses, received medical records from the complainant, and obtained video from surveillance cameras.
Detectives are continuing with their efforts to fully investigate the facts of this case. As this remains an ongoing investigation, no details of the investigation will be released at this time. We would like to finish the investigation as soon as possible, but detectives work around the victim’s and witnesses’ schedules which can sometimes delay the process.
As of today, there has been no determination as to what type of charge, if any, will be filed against Mr. Manziel.”
On Jan. 30, Crowley accused Manziel of striking her many times, including a hit so hard that it ruptured her left eardrum. She also accused him of being high on some type of substance and alleged that he threatened to kill them both.
The police eventually were called with a helicopter search being launched to locate Manziel who ran away on foot after the alleged incident.
Per the CBS Sports report, a spokesman for the case indicated that any Manziel arrest would be either by warrant or grand jury. Though, that remains a hypothetical situation with Manziel himself still under investigation.
Furthermore, a detective investigating the case has not spoken with Manziel and is not finished compiling all the facts involved. The DPD also obtained Crowley’s medical records earlier this past week.
After two tumultuous seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Manziel’s days as a member of the team are numbered. In fact, it would be utterly shocking at this point if any NFL team reached out to Manziel in light of this latest allegation.
Unfortunately, all of the negative incidents that have surrounded Manziel the last two years have overshadowed any good he actually accomplished in Cleveland.
Regarding Crowley, a two-year protective order against Manziel was filed shortly after the Jan. 30 incident.
