DeMarco Murray chose his words rather cautiously, but they still couldn’t hide the displeasure in the meaning.
According to Corey Seidman of CSN Philly, the Philadelphia Eagles running back didn’t know why the team limited his reps during the opening day of training camp. Murray shook off any rumors off an injury, saying:
“No, I’m fine, I’m fine. That’s how it goes some days. I think some guys get more reps one day, then get less reps. I guess it’s part of the deal. … That’s how it goes. I don’t know whose decision it was.”
Murray continued:
“You’re always upset when you don’t get a chance to go out there and compete and really take a little pressure off the other guys. Obviously wanted to be out there.”
His injury history isn’t pretty, and the 6-foot, 217-pounder is coming off a 449-touch campaign in which he led NFL backs with 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Long story short, the Eagles made a smart decision.
Philadelphia won’t achieve anything by running Murray into the ground before the preseason even begins. As long as Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles are healthy and available, the Eagles can save unnecessary hits on Murray until they return to the field on Sunday, Aug. 16, against the Indianapolis Colts.
