Quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins have a revamped wide receiving unit heading into the 2015 season. Gone is Mike Wallace along with his major paycheck and major attitude. The team also released Brian Hartline during the free agency period.
New to the Dolphins is Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings and first-round draft pick DeVante Parker who have joined the team’s handy slot receiver Jarvis Landry who is entering his second season.
Excited about his new receiving crew that no longer includes Wallace, a generously paid Tannehill boasted about his current crop of receivers:
“I think especially in our skill positions, guys I’m throwing the ball to,” Tannehill said Tuesday, via the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “As far as natural pass-catchers, guys that snag the ball with their hands and are athletic, I think it’s definitely the most athletic group we’ve had.”
While it’s still a bit early to claim the the Dolphins have the next Calvin Johnson or Dez Bryant in the making, it did stand out to beat reporters in Tuesday’s practice that Parker displayed some great skills catching passes while heavily covered.
Bill Lazor, the Dolphins’ offensive coordinator indicated that the weapons Tannehill now possesses will help him inch into elite quarterback status.
“I don’t know that you could script a better formula for a guy to be successful”
Tannehill just landed a four-year $77 million contract with $45 million guaranteed. He claims he has the ammunition. Let’s see where and how accurately he fires come fall.
