Former New York Giants defensive end Michael Straham, who was pretty decent athlete himself, reportedly thinks the world of Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Completing a fill-in-the-blanks questionnaire, Strahan hand wrote Beckham’s name in the “greatest athlete on earth right now” line. Note that Beckham shares line space with Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James.
Beckham Jr. is a freak of nature. Playing in just 12 games as a rookie this past season, Beckham put up a whopping 1,305 receiving yards along with 12 touchdowns. Additionally, during the home stretch of the season, he totaled 606 yards over the team’s final four games. It’s no wonder he was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.
If Beckham, who averaged 108 yards per game, had played in all 16 games, he would have been on course to record a 1,700-plus yard season. That’s amazing.
With Beckam’s unlimited athleticism, we can all only imagine what is in store for the young player as he enters his second NFL season. So far, Strahan’s proclamation of Beckham is certainly spot-on.
In the meantime, we can all be mystified by Beckham’s other amazing talents like dunking, dancing and juggling.
