San Francisco 49ers linebacker and future Hall of Famer Patrick Willis is walking away from the game at the age of 30.
After earning seven Pro Bowl appearances in eight seasons, Willis is obviously looking to try out a different arena in his life.
Reports earlier on Monday indicated that Willis’ decision to retire was based more on religion than anything else. His recent post to social media pretty much confirms this.
Today is my Future, Past, and Present all in one. It’s bigger than me, it always has been and it always will be…I thank you guys for everything, it has been an absolute pleasure….I look forward to the continuation of my journey… I feel full with something that needs to be out, and i just want to share it! Success is only as beautiful as our Consistency! My life is based On a True Concept! I know I’m not the only one!
After a ton of religious based quotes, Willis finished up:
The message! Purpose for Vision! #Proverbs29 I’m in love with these words I am here to do the work that my father sent me to do!
It seems that Willis’ decision was not based on football. Rather, he’s looks to have found religion and wants to give back to the community.
For that, Willis should be applauded.
However, we are all going to miss watching one of the greatest inside linebackers to ever play the game. It’s a sad day for football fans across the league.
We wish Willis all the best in his post-football life. He’s earned all the good that’s going to come to him moving forward.
A true class act.
