This came completely out of left field. Seemingly set as it relates to veteran receivers after signing both Jerome Simpson and Torrey Smith earlier this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers are visiting with former New York Giants first-round pick Hakeem Nicks on Monday.
WR Hakeem Nicks told me this morning that he is traveling today to California to visit the #49ers. Nicks played for the #Colts last season.

Nicks, who played last season with the Indianapolis Colts, hasn’t been the same receiver since injuries derailed a once promising career. He struggled big time in his only season with Indy, putting up just 38 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (six starts). Nicks, 27, is three years removed from putting up back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Giants.
In addition to signing both Smith and Simpson, San Francisco has a nice amount of young talent at wide receiver. Quinton Patton has impressed in preseason outings, while Bruce Ellington played well in limited action as a rookie last season. The team is also likely going to draft an eventual replacement for veteran Anquan Boldin late next month.
If Nicks does sign with San Francisco, it will be on a one-year deal with very little guaranteed. He also wouldn’t be guaranteed a roster spot.
