When Denver Broncos’ running backs Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman both suffered injuries last season, it was C.J. Anderson who came to the rescue leading a stout ground attack from day one.
Therefore, it is not surprising to hear reports that the Broncos intend to have Anderson enter OTA’s as the team’s starter. Head coach Gary Kubiak discussed Anderson’s progress and his planned role this past week at the NFL Annual Meeting (via the team’s website).
He made a big jump as a player, and I think he’s earned the right to walk into the offseason program — the OTAs — and line up as our starter. But he’s got to continue to earn it on a daily basis.
In discussing Anderson’s main competition in Ball and Hillman, Kubiak further shared these comments:
We’ll give them all a chance and see how it pans out, but C.J. obviously has a good head start on things.
Anderson, who was obviously the most durable of the three backs last season, started in the last seven games for the Broncos. During the course of his 2014 season, he piled up 849 rushing yards on 179 attempts and scored eight rushing touchdowns. Anderson was also capable as a receiver, tallying 324 yards and two touchdowns.
Excellent in zone-blocking as well, Anderson fits perfectly into Kubiak’s running scheme.
If all things keep going swell for Anderson in the offseason, he will likely rank among the top-10 running backs in 2015. Take note of that if you are a fan of fantasy football.
