It took over a quarter, but the first points of Super Bowl XLIX came when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady connected with wide receiver Brandon LaFell for an 11-yard touchdown with 9:47 remaining in the first half.
Brady targeted Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tharold Simon, who replaced the injured Jeremy Lane in the first quarter. Brady moved into sole possession for second place on the all-time Super Bowl touchdown pass list with his 10th in six career games. He trails only Joe Montana (11) for the most in Super Bowl history.
