The Carolina Panthers confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that quarterback Cam Newton suffered two broken bones in his back stemming from a car accident earlier on Tuesday.
Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries.

Newton flipped his truck multiple times in a two-car accident in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The young quarterback was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he will remain overnight for observation. The injury that Carolina reported Newton suffered is the same thing that cost Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo a game earlier this season. But the worry here has to be off the field more than anything.
If eyewitness accounts of the accident are any indication, Newton is lucky he didn’t suffer more serious injuries. He was seen on the road following the accident smiling as a first responder administered aid.
