49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Being Investigated For ‘Suspicious Incident’

TMZ reported this morning that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is being investigated for a possible sexual assault in Miami, Florida. Here is an excerpt from the report…

Our sources tell us … the investigation is in its “beginning stages” and no charges have been filed against anyone at this point

Despite the TMZ report, the situation is being considered a “suspicious incident” and the term “sexual assault” is nowhere to be found in the incident report from authorities in Miami, per The Sacramento Bee.

According to the report…

The report continues to say that the woman felt light headed and went to a bedroom where she was later joined by Kaepernick, with whom she had a sexual relationship in the past. Kaepernick then left the bedroom.

The two did not have sex, she said in the report. The report says that Patton and Lockette peeked inside the bedroom and that the woman yelled at them to get out.

It’s important that we don’t jump to conclusions either way. The investigation is in its earliest stages, nothing more. If you remember correctly, 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree was subject of a similar investigation prior to the their playoff appearance against the Atlanta Falcons in January of 2013. Nothing materialized from that investigation.

As you can see above, 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette are also mentioned in the report. Though, it must be noted that Kaepernick is the subject of the investigation. Lockette, a former teammate of Kaepernick’s in San Francisco, is best friends with the 49ers signal caller.

All three players are in Miami to attend a charity event that is hosted by current 49ers’ wide receiver Anquan Boldin. This report is said to be from earlier in April.

Whether the initial report by TMZ is its latest attempt at sensationalizing an off-field incident, as Ben Allbright would suggest, remains to be seen. Nowhere in the report itself or from the mouth of the woman is the term “sexual assault” mentioned. In fact, her report to the authorities indicate that the two did not have sex.

This is what I mean when I say it’s important to let the facts play out before jumping to conclusions. Likely scenario in this new social media age.

Sportsnaut will have updated information on this situation as it becomes available.
