Walker played with the Miami Dolphins from 1981-85. He finished his career with the then Los Angeles Raiders, playing with them from 1985-86.
Walker is best remembered for a returning a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in Super Bowl XVII against the Washington Redskins. It not only gave the Dolphins a lead heading into halftime, but was the first kickoff return for a score in Super Bowl history.
In total, Walker returned four kicks for 190 yards in Miami’s losing effort. That total was then a Super Bowl record.
That, combined with 93 kickoff return yards two years later in Super Bowl XIX, gave Walker a still standing record of 283 kickoff return yards in Super Bowl play.
Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald reported that Walker suffered a massive heart attack while cutting his lawn.
