Rex Ryan will start E.J. Manuel in Bills’ third preseason game

Rex Ryan is just messing with us, now.

The head coach of the Buffalo Bills announced on Thursday that E.J. Manuel will get the start in Week 3 of the preseason schedule—the week that teams usually leave their starting offenses out on the field for at least one half.

This announcement comes on the heels of rumors that the Bills are enamored with Tyrod Taylor, who has been rock solid thus far in training camp and during the first two preseason games.

Ryan did say at the beginning of training camp that all three quarterbacks would be given a chance to earn the starting nod, but to this point in the proceedings it has appeared Manuel was well behind Taylor and Matt Cassel to earn the position.

However, it must be noted that Manuel has looked passable in the two preseason games, completing 13 of 22 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Either the Bills really think Manuel has a shot to earn the job, Ryan is just having a field day with the media or the entire quarterback situation is an abject disaster. And at this point, it’s impossible to tell which is the truest statement.
