49ers GM Looks Forward to Winning a Lot More Games with Colin Kaepernick

Are the San Francisco 49ers shopping franchise quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a trade? With many conflicting reports floating about over the past week about Kaepernick’s future with the team, general manager Trent Baalke appears to be standing by his quarterback, at least for now.

Asked once again about Kaepernick’s status with the 49ers for the upcoming season, Baalke had this to say in a radio interview (via the team’s official website).

There has not been a discussion with another team regarding Kap. We have not made a call, nor has anyone called us. So the report that was pushed out there was false, one hundred percent false.

The assumption that Kap was ‘Jim’s guy. Kap was ‘our guy.’

I think Jim would say the same thing if you called Jim and asked him.

The guy is talented football player. He can impact a game with his arm, with his feet and he’s done it a consistent level. We’ve won a lot of playoff games with him. We’ve won a lot of football games with him. And we look forward to winning a lot more with him. He is our quarterback.

While there would seem to be no denying that the 49ers trust Kaepernick to lead their team to success and plan to keep him around, one has to wonder how conflicting news was leaked. As Kaepernick enters his third full year as the team’s starter, he boasts 25 wins compared to 15 losses and has helped lead his team to a Super Bowl.

With such slim pickings out there as far as other available or shop-able quarterbacks, the team certainly could do much worse than their 6’4″ signal caller.
