Adrian Peterson ‘not tripping’ about past experience, would ‘of course’ sign with Saints

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton recently said the team would “absolutely” consider re-signing veteran running back Adrian Peterson. This would partly be due to the upcoming four-game suspension running back Mark Ingram is facing.

With a possible reunion in the works, Peterson seems to have put any ill feelings he may have had for the Saints aside, saying he’s “not tripping over the past.”

Peterson is looking to resume his 11-year NFL career after playing a split 2017 season between the Saints and the Arizona Cardinals. The All-Pro running back claims he is 100 percent after suffering a season-ending neck injury last fall. On top of that, Peterson is out to set the record straight that he is still the best in the league.

As for the Saints, they need a short-term solution in a running back who can split carries with second-year back Alvin Kamara while Ingram sits out. Whether Peterson can be that guy remains to be seen.

Peterson’s short stint in New Orleans did not go well when he tallied only 29 touches resulting in 85 yards and zero touchdowns over four games. He and Payton also did not look to be on the same page in sideline observations last year (watch here).

It will be interesting to see if the Saints decide to give the 33-year-old running back another chance. As it stands, Peterson is not really garnering much real interest from any NFL teams at the present time.

He last averaged 3.5 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns during his six games playing with the Cardinals.
