Week 7 NFL injury report: Latest updates on Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffrey and more

The NFL injury report for Week 7 is absolutely loaded with big-name players. That includes nearly one-third of starting quarterbacks around the league finding themselves on the report.

There is some good news on this front as Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray just practiced for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last season.

At running back, all eyes are on San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey heading into Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Dealing with an oblique injury, it’s not yet known whether CMC will suit up.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

nfl injury report week 7
Jamie Germano/Rochester Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK
  • Update: Allen was a full participant in practice on Thursday and is good to go for Week 7.

Allen underwent tests earlier in the week for a shoulder injury he suffered in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants. Bills head coach Sean McDermott noted on Wednesday that Allen is day-to-day. As for the star quarterack, he said he’ll be ready to go for this week’s game against the New England Patriots. It seems as if this was much ado about nothing. If Allen somehow can’t go Kyle Allen would get the start.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Murray was designated for return from injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL last season. He practiced with the Cardinals on Wednesday. Even then, there is no telling when he’ll suit up again. Arizona has a three-week window to fully activate Murray or shut him down for the remainder of the season. At least for Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks, Joshua Dobbs will get the start for the one-win Cardinals. Dobbs has thrown six touchdowns compared to three interceptions in six starts this season.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

nfl injury report trevor lawrence
Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK
  • Update: Lawrence is officially active for Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints.

Lawrence is dealing with a minor knee sprain he suffered late in Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts. While he’s considered questionable to go for Thursday’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints, the expectation is that Lawrence will be able to go. It will be all about how the knee feels pre-game. If Lawrence can’t go, C.J. Beathard would get the start against a darn good Saints defense. We’ll have updates on our NFL injury report regarding Lawrence’s status prior to kickoff.

Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

Fields is doubtful to go Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders after suffering a thumb injury last week and not returning to action. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is preparing to go with undrafted rookie free agent Tyson Bagent Sunday. Vegas has played well defensively this season. There is legitimately no one outside of wide receiver D.J. Moore that is fantasy relevant for the Bears.

Jimmy Garoppolo, Las Vegas Raiders

nfl injury report week 7
Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports
  • Update: Jimmy Garoppolo has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears

Garoppolo was taken to the hospital on Sunday after suffering a back injury. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels noted earlier in the week that the veteran “dodged a bullet” when it came to the severity of the injury. With that said, it seems somewhat unlikely that Garoppolo will take to the field in Chicago on Sunday. Rookie mid-round pick Aidan O’Connell will likely get the start over Brian Hoyer, meaning that running back Josh Jacobs will see an uptick in touches.

Daniel Jones, New York Giants

  • Update: Daniel Jones was once again limited in practice on Thursday and is questionable to go for Week 7.

No. There is not a quarterback controversy in Jersey after Tyrod Taylor played well in Jones’ stead last week against the Buffalo Bills. Whether that means Jones will be on the field when New York takes on the Washington Commanders this week remains to be seen. Jones was limited in practice on Wednesday, which suggests he could go. The QB has been a disaster after signing a four-year, $160 million contract this past offseason (2 TD, 6 INT in five starts).

Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns

  • Update: Deshaun Watson was a limited participant in practice on Thursday. It’s the first time he’s been on the practice field since being injured.

There are conflicting reports as to Watson’s status moving forward after he missed the past two games with an elbow injury to his throwing arm. One report suggests that the Browns are confident he’ll be able to go on Sunday. Another reports indicates that it could be a multi-week absence. What we do know is that Watson missed practice on Wednesday. If he’s unable to go on Sunday, P.J. Walker would get the start after leading Cleveland to a surprise win over the 49ers last week.

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

week 7 nfl injury report: christian mccaffrey
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports
  • Update: Christian McCaffrey did not practice on Thursday. San Francisco is still listing him as day-to-day.

The 49ers will have their initial injury report regarding McCaffrey on Thursday as they prepare for Monday night’s outing with the Minnesota Vikings. McCaffrey underwent an MRI earlier in the week after suffering an oblique injury in the 49ers’ first loss of the season to the Browns last week. He avoided a serious injury and could very well suit up against Minnesota. Thus far this season, McCaffrey has gained 730 total yards and nine touchdowns. If CMC doesn’t go, look for Jordan Mason to handle a bulk of the duties.

De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins

Achane is currently on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury back in Week 5. He’s out at least the next three games. This news comes after an historic three-game span in which Achane registered 518 total yards and seven touchdowns. With Achane sidelined, Raheem Mostert continues to dominate. He’s gained 574 yards and a league-leading 11 touchdowns in six games. Jeff Wilson will also return from his stint on IR this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

nfl injury report: kyren williams
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Williams suffered a sprained ankle this past Sunday and is unlikely to go against the Steelers for Week 7. It’s a major blow for Los Angeles given how well the Notre Dame product has performed as a sophomore this season (456 rushing yards, 6 TD). Backup Zach Evans is also sidelined. Royce Freeman and Myles Gaskin were signed to the active roster. This is a clear indication that Matthew Stafford will have to put it up a lot against Pittsburgh.

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers

  • Update: Aaron Jones was upgraded to a full participant in practice on Thursday, meaning that there’s a good chance he’ll play Sunday.

Jones was limited in practice on Wednesday after missing three of the past four games with a nagging hamstring injury. He had returned from a two-game absence back in Week 4, but had to sit out the following game ahead off the Packers’ Week 6 bye. The fact that he’s limited is a good sign. The Pack are taking on a Broncos team that has yielded 1,211 total yards and 12 touchdowns to running backs in six games. If Jones is unable to go, A.J. Dillon will continue to see a bulk of the touches in the backfield. We’ll have updates on our NFL injury report moving forward this week.

Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots

NFL: New England Patriots at Las Vegas Raiders
Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Stevenson was limited on Wednesday with an ankle injury he suffered last week in yet another Patriots loss to the Raiders. Bill Belichick and Co. continue to play this situation close to the vest. We likely won’t know much about Stevenson’s status until much closer to kickoff against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Ezekiel Elliott (3.9 yards per run) would see a bulk of the carries is Stevenson is not able to go against Buffalo.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions

Detroit actually has three running backs on our NFL injury report heading into Week 7. A rookie first-round pick from Alabama, Gibbs has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice on Wednesday. With the Lions’ injury issues at running back, Jared Goff might have to pass a whole lot against the Ravens on Sunday.

DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

week 7 nfl injury report: devonta smith
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Update: Smith told reporters on Thursday that he’ll be good to go for Sunday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Smith missed practice on Wednesday due to a hamstring issue that popped up on the NFL injury report. Concidentally, this comes one day after Philadelphia signed future Hall of Fame wide receiver Julio Jones to its practice squad. That doesn’t tell us anything as it relates to Smith’s injury ahead of Sunday night’s huge outing against the Miami Dolphins. We’ll acquire a better understanding of Smith’s status later on Thursday.

Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers

  • Update: Deebo Samuel did not practice on Thursday and is listed as day-to-day heading into Monday night.

Samuel exited early in last week’s loss to the Cleveland Browns due to a shoulder injury. At least initially, there was some concern that this would be a long-term injury. Samuel is now considered day-to-day with San Francisco set to release its initial injury report on Thursday. If Samuel does play, he’ll join Brandon Aiyuk as a prime fantasy option against a Minnesota Vikings defense on Monday night that has yielded an average of 241 passing yards on the season.

Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

nfl injury report: justin jefferson
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Jefferson will be sidelined for at least three more games after being placed on IR due to a hamstring injury he suffered back in Week 5. With the game’s best receiver sidelined last week against the Chicago Bears, wide receivers Jordan Addison (3 catches, 28 yards) and K.J. Osborn (4 catches, 48 yards) did not step up. Going up against the 49ers on Monday night, the Vikings are going to struggle through the air. San Francisco has given up five passing touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions.

DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks

Metcalf did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to issues with his hip and ribs. We’ll find out more about his status with practice reports moving forward on the week leading up to Sunday’s outing against the Arizona Cardinals. Fellow wide receiver Tyler Lockett was also limited on Wednesday with a hamstring issue. He’s more likely to go on Sunday than his counterpart.

Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles

Goedert was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a groin injury. This comes after the star tight end caught five passes in last week’s loss to the New York Jets. Philadelphia will need all hands on deck Sunday night, but Goedert remains very much questionable. With him and the aforementioned Smith iffy, A.J. Brown should see a high target rate from Jalen Hurts.

Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

nfl injury report: sam laporta
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

This stud rookie tight end was listed as limited in practice on Wednesday as Detroit prepares for a huge Week 7 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. It still seems as if he’ll be able to go. Having put up 325 receiving yards in six games, LaPorta is a huge key to the Lions 5-1 start this season. If he can’t go, Brock Wright would take over as TE1.
