Week 7 fantasy football start and sit, including Tua Tagovailoa and Raheem Mostert

Our Week 7 fantasy football start and sit recommendations are now live with a whole lot to look at after the first six weeks of the NFL season.

Last week saw us recommend sitting both Brock Purdy and Jonathan Taylor. That seemed to work out for those who followed our advice. We also saw a lot of promise in Raheem Mostert while missing the mark on Amari Cooper.

It really is hit and miss. All we can do is look at advanced stats and matchups when drawing a conclusion. That’s what we’re going to do here in providing you with our fantasy football start and sit analysis for Week 7 of the NFL season.

Week 7 fantasy football start and sit: Quarterbacks

Start

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Tua is pretty much a start every week at this point. However, his matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in what is the best game on the Week 7 slate is beneficial to those who roster the NFL MVP candidate.

Philadelphia has surprisingly yielded the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks on the season. It is also dealing with a plethora of injuries in the defensive backfield, including to cornerbacks Darius Slay, Sydney Brown and Eli Ricks. With the Eagles’ defense having yielded less than 400 rushing yards in six games, the onus is going to be on Tua to do his thing. He’s the third-best fantasy quarterback heading into Week 7. This shouldn’t be a hard decision.

Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

Smith is not coming off his best of outings, throwing two interceptions in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. In fact, the reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year has thrown two touchdowns against three interceptions in his past three starts.

We’re expecting a rebound performance from the veteran quarterback against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. Arizona is yielding a 71% completion and nearly 270 passing yards to quarterbacks on the season. It is also without star safety Budda Baker while cornerbacks Jalen Thompson and Antonio Hamilton are also dealing with injuries. Smith will perform well from a fantasy perspective against Arizona.

Sit

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Despite their loss to the Cleveland Browns last week, the 49ers continue to play stellar football on defense. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown five touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions against this unit in 2023. Dating back to last season, signal callers boast a 25-to-30 touchdown/interception ratio against the 49ers.

Last week saw Cousins struggle without an injured Justin Jefferson against a bad Chicago Bears defense, throwing for just 181 yards on 31 attempts. We’re not expecting him to do much come Monday Night Football against the 49ers. That’s for sure.

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Detroit has been stellar on the road this season, winning all three of its games away from Ford Field. Though, Goff has not been as fantasy relevant when playing away from home. That includes four touchdown passes in three starts. He also struggled in similar situations last season (6 TD, 4 INT in eight starts).

With Detroit set to take on an elite-level Baltimore Ravens defense this coming week, sell Goff as a fantasy option. Baltimore has given up the second-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks on the season with four passing touchdowns compared to six interceptions in six games.

Week 7 fantasy football start and sit: Running backs

Start

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers

The good news for Aaron Jones fantasy owners? He returned to practice on Monday as the Packers come off their bye to take on the Denver Broncos this coming Sunday. The better news? Aaron Jones is playing the Denver Broncos.

Through the first six weeks of the season, opposing running backs have put up over 1,200 total yards and 12 touchdowns against Denver’s defense. That includes an average of 5.9 yards per run, which has enabled running backs to put up the most fantasy points against Denver on the season. Go ahead and do the math here.

Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders

Jacobs struggled big time to open the season after holding out throughout training camp (1.6 yards per carry throught two games). Since then, the 2022 NFL rushing champion has shown signs of turning it around. He’s coming off a season-best 77-yard rushing performance against the New England Patriots last week. Over the course of the past three games, Jacobs has tallied 321 total yards and two touchdowns.

Jacobs also has a plus-level fantasy matchup in Week 7 against a Bears defense that has yielded the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs on the season. With Jimmy Garoppolo (back) questionable to go in this one, the Raiders will be relying on their running back to get things going and potentially earn a third consecutive win.

Sit

Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins

Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Shockingly, Mostert heads into Week 7 as the second-best fantasy running back in the game. He’s tallied 574 total yards and 11 touchdowns at a clip of 6.2 yards per touch. Mostert also came to play big time last week with De’Von Achane sidelined (115 rushing yards, 2 TD).

We’re just not liking this matchup for the explosive playmaker against Philadelphia. The Eagles’ defense has been absolutely dominant against the run (395 yards in six games). Jalen Carter and Co. will hold down the fort, forcing Tua Tagovailoa to defeat the Eagles’ defense through the air.

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints

Since returning from suspension, Kamara has not been great from a fantasy perspective. Despite touching the ball 75 times in three games, he’s averaging less than four yards per touch. It’s to be expected to an extent. The dual-threat back needs to get his sea legs under him.

Unfortunately for Kamara fantasy owners, there is no reason to believe this will happen in Week 7. Kamara doesn’t have a great matchup against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that has given up just 341 rushing yards and two touchdowns to running backs through six games. Expect Jacksonville to force an ailing Derek Carr to beat it in the passing game.

Week 7 fantasy football start and sit: Wide receivers

Start

Wan’Dale Robinson, New York Giants

With Tyrod Taylor likely to go this week in favor of an injured Daniel Jones, the Giants’ passing game is actually much better. We saw that first-hand in a narrow loss to the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday night.

We have also seen Robinson step up big time in recent weeks after returning from a torn ACL he suffered a season ago. He’s caught a whopping 22-of-25 targets in three games, boasting an elite 88% reception rate in the process. New York is also set to take on a Washington Commanders defense in Week 7 that has yielded the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers on the season. Heck, Washington has given up 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns to go with a 64% completion mark to this position.

Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers

fantasy football start and sit week 7: brandon aiyuk
Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and Christian McCaffrey (oblique) are both banged up for the 49ers following their Week 6 loss to the Browns. George Kittle (five receptions over the past three games) has not been a primary target of Brock Purdy, either.

This seems to suggest that Aiyuk will once again be his go-to-guy against a disaster class of a Minnesota Vikings defense on Monday night. Aiyuk has tallied 454 yards while boasting a 68% catch rate through six games. Meanwhile, the Vikes have yielded 100 receptions for 1,164 yards and six touchdowns to receivers on the season.

Sit

Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts

Pittman Jr. saw his most targets (14) of the season last week with Gardner Minshew replacing an injured Anthony Richardson under center. In fact, Pittman has been targeted a whopping 60 times in six games this season.

We’re just not buying it with Minshew coming off major Week 6 struggles (three interceptions). It also doesn’t help that the Browns have been dominant stopping opposing wide rceivers on the season (35 receptions, 44% completion) in five games this season. Pittman is an easy sell in Week 7.

Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

Most figured that this rookie would see an uptick in targets and production with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson on injured reserve. It did not happen last week against a bad Bears pass defense with Addision catching a mere 3-of-5 targets for 28 yards.

Don’t expect much different come Monday night against an elite 49ers pass defense. Thus far on the season, receivers are averaging a mere 6.7 yards per target against this unit. Charvarius Ward (59.9 opposing QB rating when targeted this season) will be able to shut down Addison on prime time.

Week 7 fantasy football start and sit: Tight ends

Start

Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Dealing with injuries early on, Andrews has not put up that eye-opening fantasy performance thus far this season. While he did catch two touchdowns back in Week 3 against the Browns, Andrews has not tallied more than 80 yards in a single game. We’re expecting that to change Sunday against a Lions defense that has surprisingly yielded a 75% completion rate to tight ends.

Sit

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

As noted above, Kittle has not been a major part of the 49ers’ passing attack in recent weeks. We might see something similar Monday night with the dual-threat tight end being used more as a blocker in chipping against Danielle Hunter. It also must be noted that Minnesota has given up less than 200 receiving yards to tight ends through six games.
