Dallas Cowboys star rookie Sam Williams facing arrest warrant

Dallas Cowboys' Sam Williams

Dallas Cowboys rookie second-round pick Sam Williams was a top talent heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, off-field issues during his college days at Mississippi dropped him to the 56th overall pick in the annual event.

Dallas received some flack for taking a questionable character with its second pick in the draft. Now, with his Cowboys set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs on Monday, Williams finds himself in the news for all the wrong reasons.

According to TMZ Sports, Williams is facing an arrest warrant for his involvement in a car accident in Plano, Texas back on Dec. 22.

Per the report, Williams is facing charges of reckless driving — a misdemeanor in the state of Texas. Authorities in Plano indicate that “there is no plan to find and arrest” the Cowboys’ rookie. However, he “has been contacted to turn himself in.”

Williams was driving a black Chevy Corvette, heading southbound, when his car was hit by a driver in a black Infiniti who was trying to make a left turn. The crash occurred within a close vicinity to the Cowboys’ practice facility. Williams was ultimately transported to a local hospital.

Even in limited action as a rookie, Williams played a huge role for Dallas’ fifth-ranked scoring defense. He teams up with NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate Micah Parsons to form a solid duo out on the EDGE. It’s not yet known whether this warrant will impact Williams’ availability for Monday’s game in Tampa Bay.

It was back in 2020 that Williams was suspended by the Ole Miss football team after being charged with sexual battery.

“We have suspended Sam Williams indefinitely from all team activities,” Mississippi said in a statement at the time of the suspension. “We take these charges very seriously and will allow the legal system to run its course before making further determinations on his status in our program.”

The case was ultimately dropped with Williams claiming innocence. But that didn’t stop it from being a major storyline after Dallas selected him in the second round last spring.

“We’ve had a keen interest in him, and we spent a lot of time talking with a lot of people that know him real close and also from a distance. We’re very satisfied that we’re good with this pick.”
