During this week’s edition of Smackdown, WWE great and Hollywood superstar The Rock took a major shot at Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant during a new edition of his “Rock Concert” series.
After being busy for the better part of the last decade becoming a top star in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has dove headfirst back into his love of professional wrestling in 2024. The new member of the TKO Group Holdings board has a prominent role in the road to Wrestlemania 40 and this time around he is playing the part of a mean-hearted bad guy.

A classic element of the evil version of The Rock is his “Rock Concerts” where he mocks an upcoming opponent in a country song. On a Friday night edition of WWE Smackdown, he took aim at his opponents for night one of this year’s Wrestlemania, Cody Rhodes and world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins. However, he also took a moment during his set to bash a favorite sports star of the hometown crowd at the FedEx Forum, Ja Morant.

While calling Rollins an embarrassment, he looped in Morant and referred to the gun-related problems that have led to a pair of suspensions for the two-time All-Star in recent seasons.
“You’re simply an embarrassment son. Just like Ja Morant when he’s waving a gun. I love you Ja,” Johnson said with a hearty laugh. A video of the hilarious moment can be viewed above.
Morant has been suspended a total of 33 games over the last two seasons due to brandishing a firearm in a pair of social media videos. Which strongly goes against the league and the Grizzlies’ codes of conduct. The 24-year-old only played in nine games in 2023-24 after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
Wrestlemania 40 takes place on April 6 and 7 in Philadelphia and The Rock will be a part of a tag team main event on night one of the event.
