Louisville reportedly fires head coach Bobby Petrino

In a move that we’ve expected for some time now, the University of Louisville has reportedly fired head football coach Bobby Petrino. The firing is effective immediately.

Losers of seven consecutive games, Louisville has been one of the worst teams in college football this season. Its last five losses have come by a combined 166 points, including a 77-16 loss to Clemson earlier in the month.

Once former Heisman winner Lamar Jackson bolted for the NFL, it became rather clear that these Cardinals wouldn’t be able to compete in the ACC. Even then, the embarrassing performances we’ve seen this season had to ultimately lead to Petrino’s firing.

Hired by Louisville back in 2014, Petrino led the program to four consecutive bowl appearances up until this season’s dumpster fire. He finishes his career with the school having posted a 36-26 record.
