Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers player voices strong feelings about Aaron Rodgers signing

Now that Russell Wilson has moved on to the New York Giants, it appears there is only one fit for Aaron Rodgers, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After all, Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season in 18 years as the Steelers’ head coach, and Rodgers will turn 42 next season. Both parties surely plan on competing not just for a playoff spot, but for a chance to win a second Super Bowl next season.

Yet, for whatever reason, the two sides have yet to come to a contract agreement for the 2025 season. Of course, there are many varying opinions on the matter.

Some fans say they don’t want the ‘drama’ that the four-time NFL MVP brings to the locker room. While others realize Rodgers is likely the best option available if the Steelers want to compete next season.

But what about the Steelers’ longest-tenured player on the roster, seven-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cameron Heyward? He just made his feelings on signing Rodgers very well-known.

Set to turn 36 in May, Cameron Heyward represents the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise as much as any other player from the past two decades. Considering he’s heading into his 15th season with the team, the four-time All-Pro rightfully carries some weight inside Pittsburgh’s locker room.

So, what does Heyward think about the potential of Rodgers becoming the Steelers’ quarterback this season? Heyward joined NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Wednesday to share his thoughts on Rodgers becoming his teammate, and it’s pretty clear where he stands.

“I think when I look at our team right now, it would be really cool to have a guy like Aaron Rodgers, but I can’t be the guy who gets it over the finish line. I think he’s got to make those decisions for himself.”

Without a better option emerging, it’s hard to see how anyone wouldn’t want to see what the Steelers and Rodgers are capable of accomplishing together. If Heyward is on board, then chances are most of his teammates will be too.
