Hope soared in Texas when the Dallas Cowboys marched down the field on a game-opening, 17-yard touchdown drive on Thursday Night Football. That hope has been replaced by embarrassment in a matter of minutes.

Facing a Chicago Bears team without several impact players on defense and with an offense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL, the wheels just came off of the Cowboys’ wagon and Jason Garrett came tumbling out.

The second quarter proved to be a disaster for Dallas. Chicago moved the ball with ease against the Cowboys with 17 unanswered points, including a simultaneous touchdown catch by receiver Allen Robinson before the half.

The halftime break allowed Garret to try and fire up his team. This is a night when the Cowboys’ playoff hopes are on the line and Garrett’s job is at risk. Instead, the defense came out flat and couldn’t show even a hint of effort.

After the Cowboys’ poor tackling gifted the Bears a first down, Chicago took advantage. Its offense moved into the red zone, then receiver Anthony Miller took his trip to the end zone to give the Bears a 24-7 lead.

As the NFL world watched the Cowboys give up on the 2019 season right in front of a national audience and the running clock on Garrett’s tenure in Dallas ticked faster, Twitter exploded with reactions to the Cowboys getting mauled by the Bears.
