New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford recently spoke about new Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow. He’s clearly a supporter of Tebow’s off the field.
“I’m the biggest Tim Tebow fan in the world,” Weatherford said in an interview on WFAN on Friday. “I mean, who wouldn’t want their daughter to date a guy like that?”
However, when it comes to playing quarterback, Weatherford had a completely different reaction:
“I’ll tell you what,” he added. “I don’t want him taking snaps for my team.”
A little trash-talking between division rivals is pretty common. And let’s be honest here for a second, Weatherford doesn’t necessarily stand alone in his critique of the former Heisman winner.
The punter’s comments regarding Philadelphia’s quarterback situation didn’t end there. When asked to discuss how the Eagles’ situation is shaping up under center, Weatherford had this to say:
“I’m gonna give you a Ferrari that maybe won’t be running all the time, or I’m giving you a nice Cadillac sedan,” he said. “It’s not the fastest but you know what you’re going to get out of it.”
We can equate this to mean that Sanchez is the reliable Cadillac and Bradford is the shiny Ferrari.
Continuing to involve himself in the division rival’s internal situation, Weatherford wasn’t quite done. After all, why stop short before throwing some shade Chip Kelly’s way?
“Good luck with that. Chip Kelly will get himself in serious trouble if they get an extension for that guy (Bradford) and he gets hurt? He’s done.”
Not too often do we hear a player go to these extremes to critique another team. We will have to see if Weatherford can back up his talk when the teams play twice this upcoming season
