Aaron Rodgers Named NFL MVP

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers narrowly beat out Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt for the Associated Press NFL MVP Award on Saturday night in Glendale, Arizona.

Rodgers previously earned the honor in 2011, the year after Green Bay defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl.

This season saw Rodgers put up some ridiculous numbers for a Packers team that earned the NFC North title before falling short against the Seattle Seahawks in the conference championship game.

Rodgers finished the regular season with 4,381 passing passing yards, 38 touchdowns and five interceptions. It was the sixth consecutive season that the MVP tallied a 100-plus quarterback rating, which is an amazing feat in and of itself.

Rodgers received 31 of the 50 votes, while Watt garnered 13 votes.

Considering Watt’s ridiculous performance this season—Defensive Player of the Year honors—it’s hard to believe that any defender will be able to take home the MVP award moving forward.

This isn’t to say that Rodgers, who also had a great season, wasn’t deserving of the award. If it was going to go to an offensive player, he had to be the guy.
