Cam Newton is still out with a foot ailment that’s been reported as a Linsfranc injury, and he’s not even traveling with the Carolina Panthers this weekend.
The Panthers have ruled out surgery for Newton at this time, but he is expected to miss significant time as his foot injury heals.
In his stead, Kyle Allen is starting under center for the Panthers. He led the team to its first win of the season last Sunday in Arizona. He also sparked the passing game, which had previously languished, throwing four touchdown passes.
If Allen continues to produce at that high level while Newton remains out of commission, it stands to reason the Panthers will have a tough time pulling him out even when Newton returns healthy.
