Brett Favre and Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson are good friends and old teammates from back in the day. So when Pederson called Favre and asked him to give his team a pep talk before Super Bowl LII, he was happy to oblige.
On Saturday evening, Favre opened up about what he told the Eagles earlier in the day.
“I congratulated them on the year they’ve had; it’s a wonderful year,” Favre said, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “And just encouraged them to enjoy the moment. You think you’re always going to come back after you’ve gotten a chance to go but it’s such an honor to play in the Super Bowl. And to just embrace that. And I told them, ‘this is probably something I should have told you two weeks ago, but this is the longest two weeks of your life and it’s going to be the longest 24 hours plus of your life. The game at this point can not get here quick enough. But it’s going to slow down even more.'”
Favre won Super Bowl XXXI with the Green Bay Packers back in 1997 against the New England Patriots, so he had some unique insight into the experience. Though, based on what LeGarrette Blount had to say earlier this week it seems he could have cared less about what the Hall of Famer had to say.
Time will tell if Favre’s wisdom will help those who did want to listen. Super Bowl Sunday, here we come.
