The Chicago Bears made a somewhat surprising move on Sunday, releasing long-time kicker Robbie Gould.
At least, that’s the report coming from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Bears have informed Pro Bowl kicker Robbie Gould that he is being released, league source tells ESPN.

Gould, 34, has been with the Bears since 2005. He earned a Pro Bowl spot in his second season back in 2006, and has been among the most consistent kickers in the NFL since.
Last season saw the veteran connect on 33-of-39 field goals, including 14-of-18 from 40-plus yards.
With Gould on the outs, it remains to be seen who will replace him. But it’s safe to assume that his $2.9 million salary for the 2009 season was the primary motivation behind this move.
