Week 10 fantasy football start and sit, including Joe Burrow and Christian McCaffrey

Our Week 10 fantasy football start and sit recommendations are live with a whole lot to look at after the midway point of the 2023 NFL season.

We hit last week in recommending to stream Dallas Cowboys stars Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Are they in for another big game against a bad New York Giants team?

On the other hand, the likes of Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss and Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAnde Hopkins were fantasy busts.

Without further ado, here’s our fantasy football start and sit analysis for Week 10 of the NFL season.

Week 10 fantasy football start and sit: Quarterbacks

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

Coming out of the bye week, Purdy has to improve after major struggles during San Francisco’s ongoing three-game losing streak. The good news here is that the second-year quarterback will see Deebo Samuel on the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars come Sunday.

Purdy has thrown five interceptions with six total turnovers over the past three games. In the quarterback’s first 11 NFL appearances, he accounted for 22 touchdowns and three interceptions with Samuel in the mix. In short, Deebo is a difference-maker. For Purdy, it also helps that he’s going up against a Jaguars defense that is yielding the sixth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks on the season.

Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

If you like buy-low options in DFS contests or just are not happy with your QB1 in standard formats, look for Levis as a real options as his Titans take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over the course of his first two NFL starts, the rookie has tallied 500 passing yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

While he was held without a score through the air last week against Pittsburgh, Levis still managed to complete 22-of-39 passes for 262 yards. This came against a Steelers defense that’s yielding nine touchdown passes compared to eight interceptions. With Levis going up against a Buccaneers defense that’s giving up nearly 300 passing yards per game and the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, start Levis and thank us later.

Deshauan Watson, Cleveland Browns

Watson did put up a pretty solid performance in last week’s blowout 27-0 win, completing 19-of-30 passes for 219 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. It was his first sustainaed action since all the way back in late-September.

However, the quarterback should be in for a rude awakening this week against the Baltimore Ravens on the road. Cleveland’s division rival has given up six touchdown passes compered to nine interceptions on the season. Having yet to be a QB1 option in any of his five starts this season, Week 10 is not a time to mess around with Watson from a fantasy football perspective. That’s for sure.

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Much like the rest of the team, the Houston Texans’ defense has been ultra surprising thus far in 2023. This unit heads into Week 10 having yielded just seven touchdown passes in eight games, giving up the second-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks on the season. Given that they’ve gone up against Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence and Derek Carr, this is no small thing.

Sure, Burrow has been brilliant during Cincinnati’s four-game winning streak (10 TD, 2 INT). But this is not a favorable matchup for the NFL MVP candidate. We would bank a bit more on Joe Mixon and Cincinnati’s rushing attack in this one.

Week 10 fantasy football start and sit: Running backs

Start

Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons

Maddening. That has to be the best way to describe Atlanta’s usage of this stud rookie running back through nine weeks. Robinson has attempted 11 runs or fewer five times in nine games, including each of Atlanta’s past three outings. At some point, head coach Arthur Smith needs to start utilizing him and his 5.0 yards per carry average if Atlanta is going to be seen as a legitimate playoff contender moving forward.

That could very well be this week against a disastrous Arizona Cardinals defense that has allowed north of 100 rushing yards seven times in nine games this season. In fact, running backs have tallied a whopping 1,243 total yards and 13 touchdowns against Arizona. Take a chance that Robinson will get more touches in this one.

Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars

We’re pretty sure that the 49ers spent their bye week attempting to fix a run defense that has given up 368 yards on the ground during their current three-game winning streak. Prior to that, this unit was among the best in the game since the start of last season.

Even then, we like Etienne in this matchup against San Francisco. He enters Week 10 as the third-best fantasy running back in the NFL (849 total yards and eight touchdowns in eight games). Etienne has put up 100-plus total yards in three of his past five games, scoring seven touchdowns during that span. Start him, and thank us later.

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

We fully expect Jacksonville’s defense to sell completely out against McCaffrey and San Francisco’s rushing attack come Sunday. Despite the 49ers’ struggles as of late, CMC continues to do his thing (13 touchdowns in 13 games).

If the Jags do sell out against run, it will make things hard for McCaffrey to do anything going up against a Jacksonville defense that has yielded 449 rushing yards and the third-fewest fantasy points to running backs on the season.

Baltimore Ravens running backs

Keaton Mitchell, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill went for a combined 230 rushing yards in last week’s blowout win over the Seattle Seahawks. It might make some of you decide to stream two of these in Week 10. We’re not only betting against it, we’re begging you not to do that.

The Browns have yielded less than 600 rushing yards and two touchdowns at a clip of four yards per rush this season. We’re looking at a low-scoring game with points being at a premium in this one. After all, Cleveland ranks No. 3 in the NFL in points allowed (17.4 PPG) while the Ravens rank first (13.8 PPG).

Week 10 fantasy football start and sit: Wide receivers

Start

week 10 fantasy football start and sit: ceedee lamb
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys

Lamb has been absolutely brilliant for the Cowboys in recent weeks, catching 30 passes for 466 yards and two touchdowns over the past three games after displaying frustration in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers back in October.

Lamb is now set to go up against a Giants team that has absolutely nothing going for itself at 2-7 heading into Week 10. The Giants have also given up a 65% catch rate to wide receivers on the season. Look for Lamb to eat big time.

Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Evans just keeps on churning out fantasy points heading into Week 10. The veteran ranks among the top-10 at his position in points this season. He’s tallied five touchdowns on 37 receptions for a studly 13.5% touchdown rate. He also put up 87 yards against a darn good Texans defense a week ago.

With Tampa Bay taking on a Titans defense in Week 10 that has allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to wide receivers on the season, we love this matchup for the Buccaneers. Tennessee has also yielded a 72% catch rate to receivers on the season.

Sit

DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith’s struggles have been covered on this site recently. He’s tallied for touchdowns comapred to eight giveaways over the past four games. Last week alone, Smith completed a mere 1-of-4 passes to Metcalf in a blowout 37-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

It gets a bit easier this week with Seattle taking on a Washington Commanders defense that has yielded the third-most fantasy points to receivers on the season. We’re just not liking this matchup with Smith’s struggles and the level of regression we’ve seen from Metcalf in 2023. His catch percentage is down to 56.0 compared to 61.6 a season ago. Metcalf also ranks as a mere mid-tier FLEX option after finishing last season 19th among wide receivers in fantasy points.

Amari Cooper, Cleveland Browns

It’s all about matchups when focusing on our fantasy football start and sit recommendations for Week 10. Simply put, Cooper does not have a good matchup against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens in this one.

The Ravens are giving up just a 58% completion mark with four touchdowns to wide receivers in nine games this season. While the unit is being targeted a lot at this position (23.2 per game), Marlon Humphrey and Co. have done a great job minimalizing the big play. Expect that to continue on Sunday.

Week 10 fantasy football start and sit: Tight ends

Start

NFL: Houston Texans at Carolina Panthers
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans

With C.J. Stroud coming off a 470-yard, five-touchdown performances; there is going to be a rush to add the likes of Tank Dell and other Texans receivers to your starting lineups in Week 10. But we like Schultz above the rest. The free-agent signing from Dallas caught 10-of-11 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown against the Buccaneers last week. It doesn’t hurt that Schultz’s Week 10 opponent — the Bengals — have given up an 81% catch rate and third-most fantasy points to tight ends on the season.

Sit

Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars

Engram has a terrible Week 10 fantasy matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. They have yielded the second-fewest fantasy points to tight ends on the season. That includes just 289 yards in eight games and a mere 4.4 yards per target. Sell Engram in Week 10, and thank us later.
