Former North Carolina Tar Heels star quarterback Drake Maye is not going to throw during this week’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He’ll wait for the school’s pro day later in the pre-draft process.
The likely top-five pick is still on hand in Indiana to take part in the NFL Draft process. He’ll conduct interviews and potentially go through some cognitive tests.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Maye is also going to have formal interviews with a whopping 10 teams at the combine.
This just goes to show us the type of build-up surrounding the likely No. 2 quarterback prospect in the entire 2024 NFL Draft. A wide array of teams are showing interest. Some won’t have much of a chance to land Maye without a trade up higher into the first round once the annual event kicks off in late-April.

Drake Maye set to meet with New York Giants, Chicago Bears and others
Here is a break down of the teams Maye is set to meet with. Their selection(s) in the first round can be found in parentheses.
- Chicago Bears (#1, #9)
- Washington Commanders (#2)
- New England Patriots (#3)
- New York Giants (#6)
- Atlanta Falcons (#8)
- New York Jets (#10)
- Minnesota Vikings (#11)
- Las Vegas Raiders (#13)
- New Orleans Saints (#14)
- Seattle Seahawks (#16)
Chicago is expected to go with USC’s Caleb Williams at No. 1 in the draft. If the team opts to trade down from that selection, it will either add another quarterback later in the top 10.
This puts Washington in prime position to land Maye if that’s the direction new general manager Adam Peters goes. However, reigning Heisman winner Jayden Daniels of LSU has to be considered an option with that selection.
At three the Patriots are fielding trade-up calls from other teams. But it stands to reason that they’ll go quarterback to replace Mac Jones. He’s slated to be traded at some point soon.
These are the three teams that are in position to land Maye without making a move ahead of draft night.
- Drake Maye stats (2023): 63.3% completion, 3,608 passing yards, 449 rushing yards 33 total TD, 9 INT
As for the remainder of the teams Maye is set to meet with, all have needs at quarterback. The most obvious are the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders. Though, Atlanta might end up going the veteran trade route.
