UFC news: Former UFC champ predicts Jon Jones finished in round 1 by ‘heavyweight Georges St-Pierre’

A former UFC champion firmly believes that if Jon Jones fights Tom Aspinall, he will suffer his first real loss in less than a round. However, he also admits there is a bit of a bias toward the interim heavyweight champion.

Outside of an unexpected return to the Octagon from Conor McGregor, there is one fight the majority of UFC fans want most in 2025. And that would be a heavyweight unification bout between champion Jon Jones and interim titlist Tom Aspinall.

Unfortunately, as we enter April, we are no closer to a bout getting announced. While the Englishman and UFC boss Dana White have publicly suggested a booking is close, this is the fight game, and nothing is official until it is official. But, assuming a fight is made, it would be one of the biggest in the promotion’s storied history.

Jones is viewed as the greatest fighter in UFC history. Aspinall is seen by diehard mixed martial arts fans as the best heavyweight competitor today. His mix of size, speed, and technique makes him a serious threat to the aging legend. However, one-time UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping believes Aspinall is more than a threat and will be the man to beat “Bones,” and easily.

Michael Bisping predicts Tom Aspinall will finish Jon Jones in one round

“Everyone meets their match eventually,” Bisping said on the “Froch on Fighting” podcast. “I think Tom Aspinall is the new generation. He’s the new breed, and he will probably go down as the greatest mixed martial artist that we’ve ever had. He’s elite as a heavyweight.

“A lot of the heavyweight, they’re good. Very strong. They’re powerful. But they’re not as quick, agile, and as technical as Tom. Tom’s the whole package. Tom’s like the heavyweight Georges St-Pierre. He’s got no weak areas… This might sound disrespectful, but I’d be surprised if [Jones] got out of the first round.”

“The Count” admitted there may be a bias toward his countrymen. But he truly believes the heavyweight champ has never faced an opponent like him in his career. And that makes Aspinall a scary puzzle to fight.
