A new rumor suggests that the New England Patriots‘ strong interest in Jayden Daniels actually dates back to when head coaching legend Bill Belichick was still overseeing the team.

During the NFL combines last week, new reports suggested that after having conversations with Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, the New England Patriots brain trust left as massive fans of the LSU star. With the team having the third pick in April’s draft it sure seems like Daniels to New England is now very possible.

However, the organization’s interest in the quarterback isn’t a recent occurrence. At last week’s event, NFL Network reporter Bridget Condon claimed “Jayden Daniels is a guy Bill Belichick loved and was at the top of their draft board.”

So, if the new regime led by Belichick’s successor Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf pick the star QB, they would oddly enough be following through with one of the NFL legend’s last hopes for the team.

Another interesting rumor that came out after the 2024 NFL Combine was one claiming Jayden Daniels had reservations about going to New England and was hoping the team would not use the third overall pick next month on him.

However, after the rumors began to spread around the league and social media, Daniels took to his X, formerly Twitter, account this week to respond directly to the JPA Football report about his fears. In his short and sweet post, the 23-year-old just put an emoji of a cap.

Cap is a century-old term that has come full circle back into the American lexicon and means lie.
