The Los Angeles Lakers have made some savvy maneuvers to clear up enough cap space to add another max contract heading into free agency. Magic Johnson is ecstatic about this development, and he took to Twitter to praise his old boss, Jeanie Buss, and the man who replaced him, general manager Rob Pelinka.
After the way things ended for Johnson in Los Angeles recently, along with all the negative press that came with it, it’s great to see him so pumped for the Lakers.
News broke Thursday that the Lakers are moving three players — Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones — to the Washington Wizards as part of the Anthony Davis trade. Additionally, Davis has reportedly waived his $4.1 million trade kicker to give the Lakers enough cap space to sign a top free agent to a max contract.
Kawhi Leonard is a huge fish, and the Lakers have their net out in preparation to catch him with a scheduled visit lined up. Other top free agents, such as Kemba Walker, are also said to be on their radar.
With Anthony Davis already in the fold, and of course The King, LeBron James, the Lakers can get right back in the thick of things with one more superstar on the roster. Magic Johnson, and all of Lakers Nation, has reason to be excited.
